Great Moments in Opera, the first act of Puccini’s “La Fanciulla Del West”

The opera Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West is one of the lesser known works. Not with fame all over the world some of his other works like “La Boheme” and “Madama Butterfly”is reached, but to experience a beauty and I think it captures not only the novel of the Italian opera, but the optimism of those who searched West in the San Francisco Gold Rush daring.

As for the plot, the story of a simple woman and good with the names of Minnie, which owns and operates a store called Polka in a mining town in California during the Gold Rush years. Minnie is a woman who was much admired by the men of his community, not only from the teachings of the Bible, but the performance of altruistic acts, such as the care of people when they are sick, and many other acts of kindness. Minnie is how a woman who lives alone in what could be widely regarded as a legal vacuum and is expected prior to the protection of a house that proposes to take Jack Rance (sheriff of the city) to woman. Since this is an offer, refused, saying that she knows he is a strong man who would give a good home, but then feels the marriage will only accept for the sake of convenience and not love.
