Jamaica is biggest island in the bigger Antilles, and it has 3 distinct areas: the central mountains, the forests, and the coastal region. The Blue Mountains, where Jamaica’s gourmet coffee is grown, are 7400 feet at the highest point, Blue Mountain Peak. Springs feed swiftly flowing rivers and waterfalls which run south and north from the mountains. The hot and humid climate is allayed through breezes from the ocean. Temperatures moderate 75° F in the wintertime and 80° F in summer.

The wet season is May-June and September-November (the latter is also hurricane season). Annually rain changes from across 200 inches in the mountains to just 30 inches along the coast. The island produces sugar cane, bananas, citrus fruits, cacao, coconuts, and of course its world famous gourmet coffee. Jamaica is likewise one of the global manufacturers of bauxite, the ore from which aluminum is created; and likewise develops gypsum for plasterboard and structure, and of course Jamaican rum.

The Jamaican tourist attractions concentrate on Kingston, Negril, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios, with their beautiful beaches of soft sand.

For the active and adventurous, there are hiking and nature travels into the mountainous waterfall climbing, zip-lining across the forest tops, horseback riding, and river rafting.
